Linux

I run various Linux distros on my computers, typically Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora, therefore I will show which distro and distro version I was using when I wrote an article. The articles for Ubuntu and Debian assume my repository configurations.

Network and Services

The URLs below are an excellent reference for setting up Debian and Ubuntu servers and I have borrowed from them extensively to create some of my Quick 'n Dirty articles.

The articles that follow are server related and specific to my own needs. If you want more comprehensive guides then take a look at the URLs above. I use either Debian or Ubuntu for my servers and these articles explain my standard install for a server running Debian Sarge 3.1 or Ubuntu Server 6.06.1 LTS.

I typically use RavenCore on my servers, even if I am just installing a web server, because it keeps admin simple and consistent. The article below covers installing RavenCore, the services it can manage, provides an introduction on hardening and monitoring the server.
